Making Beautiful Food

Making food is as ancient as humanity itself. Our primate ancestors scavenged for food among the various flora and hunted various fauna. Some say that humanity didn’t really start until we started cooking our food. Cooking was instrumental to human evolution as I learned from Bret Weinstein’s and Heather Heying’s book, “A Hunter-Gather’s Guide to the 21st Century”. They wrote that it made food safer, reduced spoilage, and increased the calories extracted from food. How incredible!

Cooking is instrumental to our existence by feeding our higher spirits. Bret and Heather also talk about sharing food around a camp fire in their book. Sharing a meal with someone else is important. It’s an act of giving, care, and openness. But we don’t do it around a campfire anymore like our ancestors. Sharing a meal is incredible experience. From a simple dinner party to an extravagant feast, the experience is transcendental.

Those who make their own food must be proud. An ancient skill of turning raw ingredients into a dance of flavors. Each item added in balance to achieve a perfect blend that elevates the senses. It seems so simple and yet hard to master. Following a recipe simplifies the work. The balance already achieved. Yet, so few young Americans want to do this. I know many who can’t cook. Relying on horribly simple concoctions, ordering out, or heating prepared items. We must be more than that. We must cook delicious foods and serve them to ourselves and others.

That is why making your own pizza is simply incredible!

For The American Homebrewer’s Association’s August 1st Home Fermentation Day, my lovely Fiance and I made home-fermented sourdough pizza dough. We made a few Delicious pies.

Cooking is so easy to do. A quick skill to acquire that makes you and everyone else satiated and happy. For every Gen-Z’ers that I’ve met that can’t cook, they tend to be miserable and unequipped for life.

Eat good food!
